March 2007 meeting:
Our March meeting was held at the home of Jack Starmer (crumbletop).
This was perhaps one of our most organized club meetings in recent times. The topic of discussion was "Salinity - How to measure it, and what affects the readings you get." Chris Stowers concocted a super accurate solution of saltwater to the specific gravity of 1.0264. Those who brought their refractometers used the solution to calibrate their instruments to ensure accurate readings. We'd like to thank Chris for taking the time to get this together for us, even though he could not be at the meeting. Download the "Salinity and Salinity Measurement in Marine Aquaria" PDF.
Another topic was how Kalkwasser reactors work, and their associated advantages and disadvantages.
Wayne Pierson (waynesworld) let us in on some secret reactors that he has purchased and offered a few of them up for sale.
Jack's tank looks awesome. He lights it with T5 bulbs only, and the color is amazing. The SPS specimens in the tank really seem to have no problem with the small, yet mighty T5s.
Thanks to Jack and his wife (and kids) for having us into their home. It was a great meeting!
